Gallery at The NACC

The Gallery at the NACC opened on February 8, 2002. It was the vision of NACC artists that the old cafeteria on the first floor of the old high school could become a beautiful gallery space. The gallery is approximately 3600 square feet of handicapped accessible, uninterrupted, brightly lit space.

Attached to the gallery space is a large room that was once a kitchen for the school. Currently classes are held in this space; specifically ceramics and jewelry classes (link to photos or to 21st Century Learning Center information.)

The resources for the gallery are limited in the sense that the NACC cannot provide the updates it would like at this time, such as lighting and a reworking of the wall space. The Gallery Committee works within the NACC limitations, incorporating them into the overall ambiance of each exhibit. The space is large enough that the exhibits can be installed in such a way that says to the visitor “walk around, look around. Enjoy the pieces as they are presented to you.”

More than twenty exhibits have been installed in the gallery since its inception.

Each year the gallery hosts the Lewiston-Porter School District Student Exhibit. This exhibit brings in many people from Niagara County who might not otherwise venture to the NACC. Hundreds of people attend the opening reception, many of whom return often.

Beyond the Barrel had its debut in 2004. The first Beyond the Barrel featured works of various locations in the Niagara Frontier by fifteen local and regional artists. Beginning in 2005, Beyond the Barrel is broadening its vision to be a juried exhibit open to artists working and living in the eight counties of WNY and Southern Ontario. All mediums and styles are eligible.  In 2006 Citibank became the corporate sponsor for the exhibit, offering $1000 in prizes.

Each year in November the NACC Artists and Friends Exhibit opens to the public. Artists exhibit original and one of a kind works in a variety of media. In 2004 more than twenty artists were featured in the exhibit.

The Gallery Committee chooses two other exhibits for each year. In 2005 they were Niagara Artists and Friends, and From Deep in the Forest: An Exhibit of the Art of Woodworking. In 2006 NACC Artist Michael Kudela is featured in Solo, and NACC Artist Kim Congi and Maggie  Parks are featured in Secrets.
